Death is an inevitable reality that all of us have to confront but organizing the funeral of a loved one can still be very disturbing. Yet you have to bear the weight of your loss and try making proper preparations for the funeral service so that the visitors to mourn along with you. You can get the help you need in making the preparations from any funeral home, but you should keep certain things in mind before making the move.

A funeral is a reflection of a person’s life and it must be carried out accordingly. Most funeral homes are willing to compromise upon their basic method of funeral services for incorporating certain cultural or religious preferences of the deceased and of his or her family.

Visitation is the first stage of the procedure and it can extend from a period of a few hours to many days. In this, family members and acquaintances get together in memory of the deceased. The second phase is formal funeral proceedings at any site like a church, a chapel, a mortuary or at some other place that had a special significance for the deceased person. A hearse or funeral coach would need to be booked if the funeral is to be held in an outdoor venue.

After this service, the family and friends go to attend the graveyard service at the selected cemetery. This can be managed by either a relative of the deceased or a priest depending upon the decision of the family. You also need to take care of several other things like the kind of flowers you would require for the service, if you want to display an image of the deceased and who will ultimately lead the service.

The burial is the final part of the ceremony, and its site depends on the family tradition or personal liking of the deceased. The deceased can be buried in plots owned by the family or in mausoleums, or be cremated and have their ashes spread where they had desired.

Funerals around the world are characterized by a many traditions and rituals. Funeral is a service in which family and relatives pray for the deceased and resign themselves to the fate of the loss of their loved one.

Funerals throughout the world are performed by following various customs, rites and rituals. Funeral offers a chance to the relatives of the deceased person to pray for his soul and learn to cope with their loss and sorrow.

Christian funerals are performed according to the Church rules. However, given the fact that there are over 200 denominations of Christian communities, the traditions can vary depending on the allegiance of the family.

An important ceremony of a Christian funeral, known as wake, is the first and foremost ritual that is carried out before the actual funeral and involves a nightly watch over the dead person and recital of Biblical psalms for the eternal peace of his soul. In present days, this is the moment when relatives and acquaintances can pay their last respects to the deceased person. The body is either kept at the house or at Church and the time of paying visit is fixed according to prescribed norms. In earlier times, the wake was succeeded by absolution, which involved purgation of the person of all his or her sins in the present life, and laying a cross on the chest and performing offertory where people placed gifts in the casket.

Then begins the real ceremony itself, where the deceased is first transported to the Church in a vehicle and prayers from the Holy Bible are recited and hymns are sung in the church. Following this, the priest asks a relative or a friend to offer a eulogy before the body is buried. Some of the communities follow this by a ritual of ringing of the bells, signifying the end of the service. Then the casket with the dead person in it is transported to the burial site for the final set of rituals, called the burial service which precedes the burying.

Finally, the family members organize a lunch for everyone who has attended the funeral. The main purpose of such rituals is to give support to the grieving family and help them tide over their grief and accept the fate.
