Adventurous snowmobilers often add an extra measure of excitement to their snowmobiling vacations ” camping.

Sleeping in the outdoors can be extremely discomforting for some considering you risk the chances of frostbite or hypothermia out there.

At least when you snowmobile in the morning and afternoon you have the sun to give you some warmth, in the evening and night when the sun is gone, the temperature can drop significantly.

However, camping during the winter can still be an enjoyable experience as long as the campers take some necessary precautions.

As exciting and exhilarating a winter camping experience may seem, don’t underestimate the importance of planning the adventure.

Doing research about the areas you plan to visit and the winter seasonal conditions in those regions should be foremost in your planning so you can bring the appropriate equipment to stay safe.

Knowing the average amount of snow, routes that you plan to take, and the experience of the group that you are going to travel with are important factors in planning your winter camping trip.

If you plan to camp overnight in a winter camping excursion, you need to be able to make the necessary preparations for your entire group including any small children with minimal experience that may make the trip with you.

Camping overnight in the cold winter seasons can and will cause your body to lose a lot of it’s self-generated body-heat. This can pose as a very dangerous situation if you don’t take the necessary steps from the very beginning.

Thermal clothing is an absolute must when you are sleeping outdoors in such frigid temperatures. They’re not just for snowmobiling during the day.

You would also be smart to employ the layering method where you wear several loose layers of clothing to provide additional layers of insulation.

The great advantage of layering is the ease that it provides you when you need to remove clothing if your body overheats. A sweating body tends to dehydrate faster than a dry body.

As with all camping trips, make sure to bring a good supply of food for everybody in the group. Don’t just stock up on junk food and snacks; foods that provide good nourishment is ideal and necessary.

Keep in mind that our appetites tend to lessen when cold and so make sure to bring appealing yet nutritional foods so you can keep yourself well fed and energized.

The diet of a winter camper should include a lot of dry foods with high nutritional value such as oatmeal, granola, and cheese.

The enjoyment of a snowmobiling and winter camping experience rests on the campers’ abilities to plan and pack properly. Do it correctly and it can be the best trip of your life; until next year, of course.

There is one thing that a lot of people enjoy doing, and that is taking vacations. There is one type that is very popular. Camping is the type of vacation we are talking about. This vacation is something that appeals to a lot of people.

One of the best ways to go camping is to go in an RV. Well with this article let’s take a look at a lot of the great things you can do because of camping with an RV.

First of all the benefit of going camping in an RV is the fact you have all the amenities you would need. Some things like toilets and running water appeals to many people. Of course there are a few people who really like to rough it when camping. But that isn’t the type of person that makes up most of my clientele of my San Diego RV rentals business.

The next great benefit when camping with an RV is you can bring all kinds of different foods because you can store it easily. When you go camping usually you are limited in what type of food you can bring. Well if you were to go camping in an RV you are free to bring most any types of food you could imagine. That is the biggest requested item for people who rent an RV from my Campland on the Bay RV rentals service.

The final benefit it the ability to go to many campsites in one trip. When you first go camping the first thing you need to do is set up your camp. Well if you want to go to another camp what you have to do is a lot of breaking down of camp then moving everything. Well when you are camping in an RV, should you decide to go to another campground, you can do so easily by just packing up and driving. This is what a lot of people who rent from my RV rentals company.

In the face of such a question, the only answer possible is a resounding "NO!" However, why is "no" the only answer here? Why can't you use your bowie knife as a screwdriver?

In the face of such a question, the only answer possible is a resounding “NO!” However, why is “no” the only answer here? Why can’t you use your bowie knife as a screwdriver? Why can’t you chisel or punch with the blade? What happens if you attempt to use your knife as a pry bar? In short, each of these uses, while seemingly innocent enough, can lead to serious damage to your blade and may even lead to injuries.

Many people make the mistake of using bowie knives for purposes for which they are unsuited. For instance, if you choose to use your knife as a screwdriver, you’ll encounter some problems. This will likely lead to a bent tip, or might even snap the tip off your knife altogether. If this happens, you will either need to repair the blade, take it to a professional cutler for repairs, or reshape the blade as is.

Pry Bar – If you think that your bowie knife would make a great pry bar, you’re wrong. These knives are not designed with this use in mind. While you might have no choice in the matter, you should make this type of use a thing of last resort. If you do attempt to pry things with your bowie knife, you’ll find that you can damage the tip or even bend the blade of your knife. This will require expert precision to repair and might even break the blade off.

Chisel – Chiseling is something best left to specially designed tools. While your bowie knife might seem to have the right size and shape, and might even do a good job of it at first, you’ll find that it can quickly become blunted and damaged through this type of misuse. You’ll also find that use like this will void the warranty on the knife, if you have one.

As you can see, bowie knives, while ideal tools for a wide range of different uses, are not designed for some purposes. The basic rule of thumb should be that if another type of knife wouldn’t be right, then bowie knives would likely not be a good fit, either.

Knives have always played a prominent role in human affairs. From the first flint knife blade to today’s carbon steel weapons, the knife has a long and illustrious history. However, few types of knives have ever matched the mystique, mystery and magic commanded by the Bowie knife. You’ll find that this legendary weapon has spawned numerous modern derivatives, some so altered that they can scarcely be recognized as Bowie knives. What qualifies a knife to claim such heritage? Actually, this can be a sticky question to answer.

Because of the intense popularity of Bowie knives, you’ll find a wide range of different styles. In fact, there are so many different types, that it can be hard to tell what is real and what is not. For instance, you’ll find knives from the Rambo movies that are derivatives of the Bowie knife, but feature a serrated back (spine). You’ll find “Bowie” style machetes, as well. The real determining factor in the equation is your own personal tastes. For instance, if you are a purist, then the Rambo and Predator editions are certainly out of the running for true Bowie status.

The blade should be at least six inches long. It can exceed this length, though. You’ll find Bowie knives with blades as long as twelve inches, or even longer. The blade should be at least one inch wide, though longer knives might be up to two inches in width. The blade should only have a single edge, running along the bottom of the edge. These may or may not have a Spanish Notch – an area supposedly designed to trap an enemy’s knife blade, but more likely used in a utilitarian manner.

The tip of a Bowie knife is a special case. All knives tied to this particular heritage should have a clipped point. That is, the point of the knife should be located well below the spine of the blade and should connect with the spine via a curve that runs back toward the hilt and up to the spine. Any knife that does not have a clipped point should not be considered a Bowie knife (even though some very early versions of the original did not have this feature). The false edge of the tip can be sharpened or left blunt (sharpened edges indicate that the knife is a Sheffield Bowie).

Obviously, determining what is a real Bowie and what is not can be a complicated process; however, let your own preferences be your guide. If you purchase a Rambo-style knife and feel that it qualifies, then that should be good enough.

Additionally, Dylan is also the President of a specialty lighters store.
